| | -->God's Sovereignty, Obedience, Evangelism
- When God instructs, we should listen and obey. - All the devotion and efforts of men, if not connected to the One True God, are futile (1:5, 13). - The consequences of our sin affect others (1:10-11). - Accepting responsibility and punishment brings relief (for the affected ones at least) (1:12). - Even pagans can recognize the LORD's sovereignty (1:14) and worship Him for His power (1:16). - God provides even for His disobedient ones, (according to His will) (1:17). - God listens and answers, even when the disobedient call to Him (2:1). They have hope (2:4). - God is not limited by location (2:7). - "I will offer sacrifices to You with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows, for my salvation comes form the LORD alone" (2:9). - A simple message of truth and warning can convert a huge city ((when it is God's will)) (3:4-5). - Even wicked kings bow to the Almighty God (3:6-9). - When they 1) prayed earnestly to God and 2) turned from their evil ways and stopped violence, the wrath of God was turned away (3:8-10). - The messenger of God's wrath should not hate God's mercy ((and vice versa??)) (4:1,4). - God is "a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love... eager to turn back from destroying people" (4:2). - God speaks to us with illustrations that are just right/ tailored to us (4:5-11). - We shouldn't be so wrapped up in our own comfort and benefit that we ignore the dying masses (4:10-11)!
